Money Woes
Workday - 8:15am-4:00pm
I didn't get paid last week. My first assumption was a bank error, so I sent them an e-mail first. After 3 days with no reply, I sent a much angrier e-mail only to find out it wasn't their fault after all.
So it was the school board's error. After speaking with payroll (this is day 6 with no money), I discovered they thought I'd changed my bank information and had the wrong account.
That leaves me thinking, "who's calling my employer, pretending to be me, and changing my banking information to steal money from me??"
But the woman at payroll said it's likely a computer error after some other employee tried to change his/her bank information and they accidentally changed mine.
That leaves me thinking, "so who got my money, and is s/he ever going to be found? Or will this person make off with some extra cash??"
I'm told the board is still looking into it. Meanwhile, I'm completely broke. I even went into overdraft the day after my pay was supposed to be in the bank. I have my account set to automatically transfer $100 per payday into savings (an RSP, etc.). Thus, $100 left my account when I didn't have a paycheque in there to be deducted from. Then a friend cashed a $100 cheque the next day and I didn't have sufficient funds. Now I'm charged a $5 overdraft fee by my bank.
Argh.
The school board issued me a cheque which was ready this afternoon. I went to pick it up after school (I left school at 4pm. I would have left earlier but I had work that had to get done), driving halfway across the city as fast as I could. The board office apparently closes at 4:30pm.
I arrived at 4:36.
Was anyone still there? Nope. Ok, one person who opened the door of the payroll office for me, but only to tell me that everything was locked up and I couldn't get my cheque. I told her I was broke. She hardly cared.
Forget the fact that I just wasted an hour of my time and gas for nothing. Gas that I can't afford because my employer doesn't pay me!
Yes, they could mail my cheque, but then I wouldn't receive it until next week. That date would be teetering over the deadline for November's rent. And so I will be driving out there again to pick it up tomorrow afternoon . I finish school earlier, so I shouldn't have a problem getting there in time.
Still, it irks me to have to go out of my way to get my own money that I wasn't paid because of their mistake and will be more than a week overdue.
Oh yeah, I also asked for another $5 to cover my bank fee.
